The city was once called Dairy City, but dairy farmers eventually sold their plots and moved elsewhere. The city changed its name to Cypress in 1956 in honor of a local elementary school. The city hosts annual concerts on the Green, which have included tributes to Elvis Presley and Neil Diamond.
